Journal 14

What inspired me most this semester was my fellow classmates. Everyone has been so supportive of each others work. As well as being supportive everyone has been inspiring through their work. I loved this semester and I love the graphic students that helped me through it!

How did the experience change with sound on and off. Most youtube examples are similar in design style. What is wrong with the similarity? Did you find examples that are different from the "norm". Choose at least 6 to examine closely. How does the experience differ? feeling, mood, emotion, imagination. Which ones do you “like” why. Which ones don't you "like". How are transitions used? How is sound used? How is color textures, images, graphics, type...used?

Watching motion graphics with and without sound was very different. Sound makes such a big difference with the impact it had on me. Without sounds not all of the message felt communicated.

What is wrong with similarity? The problem with similarity in motion graphics in that your work will get lost in the millions of other videos. Being original is very important and helps people noticed your work.

The clips that I watched all seemed to have very good transitions which makes a big impact and seamlesly sews everything together.

Journal Entry No. 8: Monday, March 22/ Tuesday, March 23
read: go to the Design Observer website, read Type Means Never Having to Say... looking at your font list and font spec sheets what sans serif fonts would be similar to Futura but a better alternative? and read any other article of your choice. reflect and summarize what you read. a few of my favorites:

I would use Helvetica neue as an alternative

I choose to read 10 Graphic Design Paradoxes... This article was about the 10 things that graphic designers improve on. The best thing I took away from this article was that most designer blame their clients for bad design. He also said that there is no "bad" client. To sum this article up everything is about designer/client communication to help get a great final product.

Watch + Listen: Thirty Conversations on Design: Little and Co asked 30 designers the same two questions... “What single example of design inspires you most?” and “What problem should design solve next?” Their answers might surprise you. But hopefully, they’ll all inspire you. Discover what they have to say. Listen to at least 5 "conversations".

Summarize, reflect, how would you answer the questions?

The five conversation I listened to had an array of answers... Some answers were "the city", "other products" "people" and "daily life". If I had to answer what design inspires me most I would have to say the day to day life. I pull inspiration from class, work, friends and family. In addition to those other designers inspire me greatly.
