Concept Statements
1. Hybrid word. Love-hate
I choose the two words love and hate because this series of books written by Greg Berenhdt is about finding love and then breaking up.
2. Quote about love.
“Sometimes I wish I were a little kid again, skinned knees are easier to fix than broken hearts.”
3. Urban Dictionary definition of “break-up”
When two people have to let each other go. Despite the fact that one of them loves the other one truly. The girl or the guy in your case decides that the two of you are not compatible for each other. Hopefully the two of the people can remain friends, though that is hard for guys to do, because we hold on. But always remember, there are more than 6 billion people on this planet. So though you may not want to hear it, the chances of this person being the one, are less than winning the lottery. I know it's tough but you have to move on after a break up.

Research about series of books
Define: series and sequence.
Series. A group or a number of related or similar things, events, etc., arranged or occurring in temporal, spatial, or other order or succession; sequence.
Sequence. Is an ordered list of objects (or events)?
Define: sign, index, symbol. Include an example of each. Verbal and Visual
Sign. Is an entity, which signifies another entity?
From the reading “This Means That” I became more conscious about the way we look at signs. For example the apple-to-apple comparison. An apple can really just mean the fruit, it could mean healthy, or talking it further it could mean lust. Signs may be obvious or have hidden meaning either way it is our job as graphic designers to make sure that the sign we are trying to convey is clear and simple, so that our audience get what we are trying to communicate.
Index is a system used to make finding information easier
An index is very similar to a sign but is more representational. In the reading the examples that they give us is always transitional. The way one gets a black eye is by receiving a punch. Another example they give us is someone knocking at the door causes a knock. Simple daily examples that we all are aware of but never think about.
Symbol is something such as an object, picture, written word, sound, or particular mark that represents something else by association, resemblance, or convention. In the reading symbols communicate the meaning of one word to another, dove translates to peace and rose translates to beauty.
What makes a successful book jacket?
A successful book jacket or cover grabs the attention of the potential reader. The website “Smashing Magazine” articulates I feel about book covers… “However, it’s getting even harder: to make a book really hard to forget, designers need to design the cover in a unique, creative and striking way.” It is becoming more of a challenge to create new book covers because there are so many well-done covers to compete with. From personal experience I know that I have based my book purchases on what the cover of the book looks like only to find that the content inside wasn’t any good. Going back to what a successful book cover entails basically to me means having a visually appealing cover to make that book stand out from all of the rest.
The three books I choose to redesign are all by the same author Greg Behrendt. He only writes books for the self-help genre, but used write for the television “Sex in the City” along with having his own talk show. The three books I choose from his writings are “He’s just not that into you”, “It's called a Breakup Because It's Broken: The Smart Girl's Break-Up Buddy” and “It’s Just a Date”. I choose these books because I enjoyed reading them and I believe I could make an interesting book cover with their content.
About the author Greg Behrendt:
Greg Behrendt should be known for May things. He's a brilliant lifelong comedian who accidentally became the best selling co-author of the inescapable He's Just Not That Into You. He was the host of the weirdly named Greg Behrendt Show and he's the musical force behind America's instrumental surf and ska combo the Reigning Monarchs and the foremost collector of small glass pig figurines or ("pigurines"). It is because of all these unique, memorable accomplishments that he is singularly recognized world wide as That Guy From That Thing! Enjoy him in person or at a great distance but enjoy him just the same!
Blurb for “Hes Just Not That Into you”
For ages, women have come together over coffee and cocktails to analyze the puzzling behavior of men. He’s afraid to get hurt again. Maybe I intimidate him. He just got out of a relationship. Greg Behrendt and fellow Sex and the City writer Liz Tuccillo are here to say that men are not that complicated, even if they’d like you to think they are. And there are no mixed messages.
He’s just not that into you if:
He’s not asking you out
He’s just too insanely busy to pick up the phone
He doesn’t like the words ′relationship′ or ′boyfriend′
He’s Just Not That Into You is provocative, hilarious and intoxicatingly liberating. No longer will beautiful, smart, funny women like you waste time making excuses for a dead-end relationship. With Greg and Liz’s wise words of advice, you can set yourself free to find the guy who really is into you, and would love to show you how much.

Blurb for It’s Just a Date
What ever happened to dating? Used to be that a guy would ask a girl out. He′d pick her up at her house and take her out for dinner, a movie, or a cup of coffee and some conversation. Then both parties would decide if they wanted to do it again next week. There was protocol. A standard set of guidelines to follow for this age-old ritual. Now who even knows what dating is? There are so many social pressures and panics that dating has become an anxiety-riddled experience complicated by the sexual revolution, the Internet and Cameron Crowe movies.
′It’s Just a Date′ will give you tools, not rules that you can use to protect yourself, while also opening you up to new ideas about how to date and who might be right for you. Dating doesn’t have to be hard - in fact, if not taken so seriously, it can be seriously fun.
Dating guide includes:
The digital age and how it’s changed dating, including mobile phones, e-mailing, text messaging (the new not calling) and online dating.
The compromise: hooking up, booty calls and quasi dates - was it or wasn’t it a date?
Telling your current person about your exes.
Exit strategies - how to pull the plug when the dating isn’t working out.
